What a Great Monday!

This is actually the first recorded history of "Monday" being preceded by "Great" in either writing or speech. The phrase "great Monday" has typically been deemed oxymoronic, though when your 'weekend' is Monday and Tuesday the phenomena is actually possible!

Emily and I decided to hit up the thrift store on our way to run errands. There weren't any martini or really drink glasses in the house and when you're doing field work that is a major problem. I picked up these two drink glasses, super cute plates, and a big skillet to add to our collection (previously I had made pancakes in a wok because for some reason we have a wok and breadmaker, but no real stove top pan or griddle).

I found some vintage 1970s postcards at the thrift store and am elated about my find. Not only did they have Martha's Vineyard, but they also had a few Blue Ridge Parkway postcards! It was a weird instance of those past experiences meeting your present self.

Our eyes, stomachs, and fridge are happy after grocery shopping, but our bank accounts may not be! I got this super cute colander at the thrift store to hold my produce. We will be eating well for awhile!!

Emily and I picked Kady up from work and we all headed to Alley's General Store. This West Tisbury shop is everything that a general store should be- random, cluttered, and makes you feel at home.

Post-grocery store we were full of culinary anticipation and got started right away. Emily made scrumptious southwest tofu frittatas and I made a kale salad with beets, goat cheese, and a molasses dressing.

For dinner we had pork tenderloin, brown sugar apples, and a butternut squash risotto topped with goat cheese.

I made bread!*

*with Emily's support at the grocery store and Kady's close supervision

It's a honey molasses wheat bread like Outback Steakhouse. Kady brought some real, true, awesome molasses from Vermont and shared.

I think it's a really funny thing how our summer is going to evolve. We are going to see the laying of eggs, hatching, and fledging of chicks. We'll go from novices on the island using a GPS to having favorite spots and knowing people. This farm house seemed so big when it was just Emily and me! I thought it would be fun if we took a picture in the same spot as new people joined the house. Here's Emily and me and we've already gained 2 more housemates! There will probably be 11 of us by June, so I hope it'll be fun to watch as the picture and names on the list grow.
