Birds!

Finally, some pictures of what I get to see every day!

I broke in my new camera and ironically this is a plover "broken winging". Most individuals exhibit this behavior as a means of getting you (the predator) away from their eggs or chicks. It is quite a dramatic and hysterical event when you realize what they're doing. I will attempt to get a video of this crazy display!

A Least Tern with a sand eel in its mouth. This is the species that I worked with in Oklahoma, so they have a special place in my heart.

An adult non-breeding laughing gull

Chicks!

Chicks hunker down in an attempt to hide. Note their great camouflaging pattern and coloring.

A brown thrasher. This particular individual is an especially pretty tawny color.

Roseate Terns

An American Oystercatcher sitting on a 3 egg nest :)

This is an extremely light colored female. Usually the females are a little more drab, but this one is insane! It's really easy to tell them apart when they look like this :)

Okay, I know this isn't a bird, but it was seen while watching all the birds :)

Common Tern

I'm so happy to finally have a camera to share pictures with everyone at home, but also to snag pictures so that I can ID the birds when I get home and have a bird book!
