Well... their bus was running behind so they missed the ferry they were supposed to catch. You know, the big ferry with a full food court, TV, lookout deck etc. (the one I had prepped them for!). Instead they took the freight ferry, The Governor. It was very difficult not to laugh seeing them on the deck with all their luggage, fully exposed to the elements, pulling up in Vineyard Haven Harbor.
I don't have any pictures from their first evening on the island. The lack of evidence is due to the fact that we stopped at The Net Result and got freshly steamed lobsters for the landlocked ladies. Laughing, lobsters, and exhaustion from a full day of travel meant no pictures and early bed!
Saturday morning we hit the ground running with a trip to the West Tisbury Farmers Market. I hadn't been to the market before as I usually work Saturdays, so it was a new experience for all of us. I was impressed by all the beautiful flowers, the wonderful baked goods, and the abundance of produce. I believe I made at least 3 trips to the car to deposit my aunts' purchases before I ushered them back to the car themselves! (I had to drag them away from singing back up in the band)

The gang thought the chore board was quite funny and insisted on signing up plus adding some new chores...

Well, the aunts got to experience The Ritz in all its glory. It was Saturday night, feelin alright, that's how we do it 'round here.
Sunday was Aunt Dianna's birthday! It's not often - if ever- that I get to celebrate her birthday in person! We had a marvelous brunch at State Road restaurant followed by a day at Lambert's Cove Beach and a picnic dinner watching the Menemsha sunset.

Monday morning we had the chance to enjoy some of the market purchases including Chilmark coffee, local bread and scones, and an island lavender jelly.

We visited Bad Martha's- the "farmers brewery" on the island. I thought I was safe when I said "do you want to play corn hole?" and two of the sisters replied "what's that?". Well, I'm gonna call beginner's luck on this! After a few tosses Jeanne killed it. I'm glad I didn't place any bets because I would have been out a good chunk of change.

My grandmother passed away a few years ago and her sister, my Great Aunt Ellen, died this spring. It was the first happy occasion for all of us ladies to get together since these losses. Ellen and my grandma's sister Mary insisted on sending a check to buy a round of drinks to toast in their honor. Her check and card arrived in my Vineyard Haven mailbox while the sisters were there, so we find a bar on the harbor and raised our Bahama Mamas to the blue bonnet sisters! They would have loved the drinks, the adventure, and that we were all together.
Of course I had to take them to my favorite store, The Rainy Day Store.
We were able to watch many beautiful sunsets and view all four island lighthouses. We ate well, drank well, took in some beautiful sights, and enjoyed each other's company. Thank you all for spending so much time, effort, and funds to come visit my (not easy to get to) island.
